Belize Vacation for KidsShould I bring my kids to the Blue Tang Inn? What is there to do for kids? Is Belize safe for kids? These are questions we get a lot.

Our Marketing Director, Kristin, travels from Minnesota to the Blue Tang Inn at least twice a year and always manages to bring some or all of her three children. They wouldn’t have it any other way. Belize and the Blue Tang has become their favorite vacation destination. They have made good local friends on the island and love the things to do in Belize.

Things to Bring for Kids

• Favorite Convenience foods
  The Blue Tang suites have full kitchens and we bring along cereal, fruit snacks, granola bars, mac & cheese, peanut butter and jelly. The local grocery stores are great but you pay a premium for imported items.
• Favorite Toys
  It’s amazing how a change of scenery can make Barbies, Webkinz, Matchboxes and stuffed animals a kid’s best friend again. Make sure the toys are able to get wet because chances are they will find our pool.
• Life Jackets
  Children love to swim off of the dock in front or even walk right in the ocean from our beach. Life jackets also come in handy on glass snorkel boats and sail boat trips.

San Pedro Activities for Kids

• Blue Tang Inn Pool
  Our small pool is great for kids as it iss right in front of the hotel, not deep and gets warm in the Belizean sun. Be prepared to spend a few hours a day either watching or playing with your children in our pool. Ask the front desk for pool toys – we just ask that your bring them back!
• Ambergris Caye Beach
  The Ambergis Caye beach is a great playground for kids. Right in front of the Blue Tang Inn, there is a great sandy beach with shallow entry for toddlers. The reef breaks the waves about 1/2 mile from shore so it is very calm. Also, explore the pier that the local kids swim off of. They will show your kids how to have a great time! Ask the Front Desk for beach toys and enjoy your Belize beach vacation.
• Golf Cart Exploration
  Our kids love to ride in a golf cart and explore San Pedro town and the rest of Ambergris Caye. Go shopping in town and then drive north and enjoy the adventure. Ask our Front Desk for golf cart rental pricing.
• Swimming at Secret BeachEnjoy a 30-minute Golf Cart ride North of San Pedro Town to Secret Beach. At Secret Beach enjoy the calm, crystal clear waters with sandy bottom and gradual entry. The perfect place to bring your favorite floaty and play. The beach is free and there are several restaurants to enjoy chairs, umbrellas, food and beverages.
• Glass Bottom Boat

Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley

Adult rate -$60 US (12 yrs & over) Child Rate – $35 US (5-11 yrs) if booked with our sail boat, $50 USD if with another company

Includes: Park fee, sales tax, water and fruit punch and snorkel gear if needed. This is a our scheduled tour which goes at 9am and 2pm daily with a minimum of 2 adult people, except on holidays when the minimum is 4 adults. Trip is 3 hrs. This tour is to the well-known protected area known as the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and the famous Shark Ray Alley, where you can swim with the nurse sharks and southern and Atlantic stingrays. Occasionally you see Loggerhead turtles. The sites are located about three miles from San Pedro Town on the reef. It’s a 35-minute boat ride each way to get there and once there you have approximately 1 ½ hours of snorkeling. Total time on this tour is 3 hours. Non-snorkelers can watch the fish and sharks and stingrays from the glass or the side of the boat. They can also swim by the boat.

• Inland Trips

The Blue Tang staff can help you arrange for a trip to inland Belize. One of our favorite tours is to visit the mysterious Xunantunich Mayan Ruins and Belize Zoo. If you’re lucky, monkeys will find you and come and show off.

• Ice Cream
  Manelly’s Ice cream or Dandee’s Frozen Custard is a few blocks from the Blue Tang and offers reasonable prices on the island’s best ice cream. This is a daily stop.
• Arts and Crafts
  Children love to sit under the Blue Tang Palapa, feel the warm Caribbean air and do art projects. Either bring materials or buy them at local shops.
• Make friends with the local kids
  Belizeans are warm and gregarious by nature. We have found the children to be respectful and warm and open to our kids. Our daughters have made friends they visit each year.
